Since the beginning of 2022, the Georgia program has seen a sharp increase in arrests. In the past, Coach Kirby Smart has promised to make things better.
“I’ll be the first to admit we haven’t solved that issue or problem,” Smart told reporters in July 2023. “I don’t honestly know that anybody has, but certainly for us, it’s important to acknowledge it first. We’ve had a lot of intervention in terms of talking and visiting, and discipline measures have been implemented in terms of education. We’ll continue to do that.”
“We are aware of the charges and are currently in the process of gathering information,” executive athletic director Steven Drummond said.

“This is a pending legal matter and will not have further comment at this time.”
The Georgia football team has seen similar difficulties in the past, including instances involving accusations of reckless driving and arrests for DUI among players and personnel.
Georgia has not yet responded to the arrest of Etienne. Following a series of traffic-related accidents in the months following a crash in January 2023 that claimed the lives of player Devin Willock and staff member Chandler LeCroy, the Bulldogs’ football program came under heavy scrutiny a year ago.

After playing for Florida, an SEC opponent, for the previous two seasons, Etienne switched to Georgia in December. With the Gators, he rushed for 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Since Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards are both heading to the NFL, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart will need to replace his two best rushers.
